DARRYL BAKER
I grew up in the Church. My Father was a Methodist pastor. The church has always been “home” for me no matter where we lived. The church has been a “moving experience”. We moved six times before I was in high school. In all the moves and transitions in my life, the church was the place where I found support and guidance. God has continued to do a new thing in my life. I have learned to follow the Spirit’s guidance and trusted my intuition as a person and pastor. My life experience and professional training have provided me with a rich perspective and understanding of ministry in Christ’s church. As the world changes and ministries challenges increase, I have learned to hold on to the basic principles and values instilled in me throughout my faith journey. Yet I have also learned to adapt and change course as the river of life takes its bends and turns. Even though the church appears to be diminished, I believe that the opportunity to bear witness to our faith and engage in significant ministry lies ahead for the Church of Jesus Christ. GINNY HARVILLE BAKER
I cannot remember a time when I did not go to church. It has always been a place of comfort and acceptance, a place where I learned to love music and learning about God, a place that has always felt like home. I am one whose faith was nurtured over the years by my parents, pastors, Sunday school teachers, choir directors, youth leaders, and camp counselors. The church in which I grew up hired their first Director of Christian Education when I was a freshman in high school and that was the first time I knew that one could work in the church in that capacity. I was encouraged and inspired by our DCE to consider Christian Education as a profession and that goal shaped my college education and led me to the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now a part of Union Presbyterian Seminary) in Richmond, VA. While at PSCE, I strengthened my love of the educational ministry of the church and discovered a love for recreational ministry as well. Helping people to be renewed and refreshed through play, dance, crafts, retreats, and creative worship has been a true joy. Playing and sharing in fellowship together strengthens our relationships with one another and with God.
